While we are still digesting the content of the review and its implications, we are grateful to the Minister for Education, Kate Jones, for initiating this important review and to those who conducted the work. There is much to address and we still await the concrete policy responses to the recommendations.
Most of all enforcement of any new policy will be crucial to make any difference in how RI is conducted in our state schools. We have demonstrated countless times schools’ failure to comply with the policy as it exists now, so this is an area of particular interest.
Proper consent procedures, including the timely provision of c.o.m.p.r.e.h.e.n.s.i.v.e information at the time parents make the decision for their child regarding RI is crucial and has been a major stumbling block.
We will continue to engage with the department on this issue.
